Donaldson Corey Fund
TYPE OF FUND: Designated DATE ESTABLISHED: 2002
PURPOSE: To honor the memory of Kermit & Helen Donaldson and James & Norma Corey, by providing annual funding for the equipment and training of the Canaan Valley EMS.
DISTRIBUTION: Upon the recommendation of the Grants Committee and approval by the Board of Directors of TCF.
VARIANCE POWER: If, in the judgment of the TCF Board of Directors, the restrictions and conditions of the fund become unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community, the TCF Board of Directors maintains the right to modify the terms of this fund.
FUNDING: A memorial gift from daughter, R. Joanne Donaldson Corey and son Frederick N. Corey of Canaan Valley, WV for the two couples for whom the fund is named: F. Kermit and Helen Scott Donaldson and James L.D. and Norma Muth Corey.
BACKGROUND: Both couples, for whom the fund is named, were formerly of Alliance, Ohio. They instilled in their children a sense of pride in their community and a determination to serve fellow human beings whenever possible. Kermit Donaldson worked in the steel industry for over fifty years beginning as a foundry man and completing his career as executive vice president of the Steel Foundry Society of America. James Corey attended Western Reserve-Case University in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in France during WWI and in his career attained the vice-presidency of a large construction company. Both men volunteered in civic organizations throughout their lives. Mrs. Donaldson and Mrs. Corey were active members of ladies clubs and community organizations. Both couples were parents of 2 sons and 1 daughter.
